Some cities create housing for their growing population by providing taller buildings. Other cities create housing by building on wider areas of land. Which solution is better?
It is true that population growth is a precursor of building more skyscrapers and land houses. Due to crucial benefits of land houses, I believe that building more skyscrapers is a better solution to constraint population growth.
On the one hand, land houses may not utilize enough size of an area. With the same areas of land, land houses may not as effective as high-rises, because it just only contains 1 family in a house and also takes the same area of land as tower blocks. Therefore, it may deprive the government of empty lands to create more accommodation for citizens. In addition, land house may exorbitant for many people, because it concludes many expenditures such as buying land, hiring workforce and buying materials. Therefore, it may cost a huge amount of money and numerous of time to own a house.
On the other hand, I side with those who believe that the government should build more skyscrapers to reduce population growth. Firstly, they can contain numerous of households, so people may not worry about lack of accommodation. For instance, comparing 20 sky-scrapers and 20 land houses, the capacity of skyscrapers and land house may respectively around 1000 and 20 households. Therefore, it obviously to see that creating more high-rise buildings is more effective in lower the rate of population growth than build a house. In addition, the expenditure of buying an apartment is also cheaper than build a house, so it is affordable for almost citizens to have their own accommodation.
In conclusion, I firmly hold the view that creating land houses pales to build more skyscrapers. Despite benefits of building lands house, I believe that create more high-rises is the best solution in reducing population growth.
