As a result of numbers of innovations in the global society, our working industry has witnessed radical changes particularly when it comes to career choices. In today’s world, self-employment has become more popular comparing to jobs provided by a company or organisation. Despite a variety of reasons for people deciding to work on their own, there are some considering disadvantages of it that may outweigh the advantages.
Taking a closer look at people’s perspectives of being self-employed, it is reasonable to some extent that this has been an ideal choice for the current society. First it is associated with a flexible working time, which allows people to decide whenever they are completely ready to begin their job or exhausted enough to take breaks. For instance, it is suitable for a morning person to start working early as opposed to a night owl who creates more productivity at nights. Morever, self-employment provides a comfortable workplace which is often lack in big companies and organisations. As a result, self-employees would be able to avoid daily stress from co-workers and the seniors.
However, working on one’s own appears to have a lot of drawbacks which should be fully aware of. One primary disadvantage is the threat of disorder due to the lack of self-esteem and self-management. At intial phases of work, many people struggle to stay motivated and stick to a working habit without interference from the others. In a long run, this would create chaos if the person could not find the urge to reorganise their career. In addition, self- employees may face with financial risks since there are no fixed salary comparing to those who work for a company or organisation. Therefore, they supposed to be more stressful and live an unstable life.
In conclusion, people have their own reasons to be self-employed but the disadvantages of it should not be neglected. Nevertheless, if self-employees have the ability to manage and overcome obstacles in their working life, this may be the best choice above all.
