The given maps illustrate how a public library changed over the period of 20 years.
Overall, it can be seen that the library has altered significantly compared to the past 2 decades. The most striking feature is that the middle area of the library has became more spacious as some tables and chairs were demolished.
In detail, there were some noticeable changes in the western side of the diagram. Firstly, it is clear that a room for CDs, videos and computer games were removed to make way for storytelling events and children’s fiction books with some sofas to be built. The adult fiction books area has also been replaced by a space for all reference books while the reading room, which contained newspapers and magazines, has turned into a new computer room. Turning to the southeast corner of the library, the room for children’s books was also turned into a lecture room. Furthermore, the adult non-fiction books has experienced a significant development as it now became a space for adult non-fiction books, information desk and some self-service machines. Finally, in the northwest area of the public library, the enquiry desk, where people used to buy tickets or return books in the past, was knocked down to introduce a new cafe.
