In the modern world, there has been a trend of people eating unhealthy food, posing a detrimental threat to their health. While some perspectives consider education as an effective way to solve this problem, other viewpoints propose that education will not be a workable solution. From my perspectives, I wholeheartedly agree with the former point.
On the one hand, there are compelling reasons why education is not considered as an effective way to address the issue of excessive fast food intake. One reason for this view is that our fast-paced life is the root of the problem, which can not be solved just by education. To elaborate, the social and financial pressure makes people immerse themselves into tight schedules, thereby their time for preparing meals is limited. Fast food has become a widely accepted solution with their efficiency and accessibility. Moreover, the unique flavour of junk food attracts so many people and contributes to the addiction even if they have a comprehensive understanding about the drawbacks of this kind of food. According to the research of the US Food and Beverage Centre, 30 percent of their population is addicted to junk food, which puts a strain on public healthcare due to relevant diseases such as obesity, heart diseases or increased blood pressure.
On the other hand, despite some concerns about the effect of education, I would strongly endorse education as an effective key to junk food overconsumption. The primary reason is that the attention of people toward health has increased in recent years, especially after Covid-19 Pandemic. Junk food contains a significant amount of oils, hazardous colouring agent trans fat and added sugar that contribute to the rapid expansion of numerous serious health problems. Education can raise awareness among people about the adverse health effects of excessive junk food consumption and give them deeper understanding about nutrients , which lead to healthier dietary choices. A study published in the journal Appetite showed the results when interviewing 10.000 people in the USA with their junk food eating habits. Then it revealed that providing information about the health risks of junk food reduces the frequency of eating junk food in people.
In conclusion, although both views certainly have some validity, it seems to me that education plays a key role in changing dietary habits of people as the demand for taking care of health has increased recently.
