These days people are living into their 90’s and beyond. As a result, there is increasing concern about care for the elderly. Do you think it is the responsibility of the family to care for their elderly members or should the government be held responsible?

Nowadays, taking care of elders has become a discussion topic among a whole society. Some people believe that government should be responsible for senior citizens, while others think that it is the families’ responsibility. My view is that both the government and families are responsible for elderly people.
To begin with, the main reason why the government should be responsible for elders is shift. More specifically, elderly people have been productive members throughout their life, contributing their health and intelligence to society and paying taxes. When they become old, this is the turn of the government to return to senior people by paying pensions and healthy care. For instance, elderly people who retire at age 60 after working for over 30 years in businesses can receive retirement benefits equal to 80% of their last month’s salary.
Conversely, elderly members have an important role in the families, they have been cultivated their children to become useful citizens and have been covered almost expenditures relevant to their offspring. When children mature, this is the chance for them to express their filial piety to their seniors. Additionally, emotional support from the families is another major benefit that elders need because being surrounded by loved ones could help elderly thrive better. This is something that the government could not replace familial doing such as talking about the good day or bad day with the seniors and give them preferred dishes, which is based on mutual understanding from long-term interactions.
In conclusion, both the government and families should be responsible for taking care of elderly people. The government can give them support in finance and healthy care, on the other hand, giving them meticulous supports from daily activities and mental health is the families’ responsibility.
