Many people think that public libraries should only provide books and should not waste their money on expensive high-tech media, such as softwares, DVDs or videos. Do you agree or disagree?

For centuries, libraries have been regarded as an encyclopedia collection of human knowledge. However, due to the increasing prevalence of the Internet and innovative devices, they are losing their ground. As a result, I am confident to say the idea that libraries should only provide books for the public and avert technology integration is senseless.
In the modern era, abstaining from smart device equipment, without a doubt, brings disadvantages to reference centers. People, especially the young these days have to update information at a rapid speed as the inventions born minutes ago could become obsolete just in the blink of an eye. They cannot waste time browsing pages of age-old paper, which does not firmly promise the answer to their inquiries. Besides, as technology adaptation is a compulsory requirement of modern citizens, schools nowadays tend to demand students to do research on the Internet in order to earn both academic knowledge and computer exposure simultaneously. Conventional libraries, therefore, prove to be inferior since they cannot optimize the study time of learners.
Regarding a larger social aspect, the deficiency of high-tech tools not only undermines the book centers but also harms students and researchers in general. Libraries have been the most reliable source of information for schooling as the data contained in books are verified by knowledgeable scholars and concerned managing agencies before publication. As they lose students’ interest due to the lack of multimedia devices, they indirectly encourage the young to acquire false news, which is popular on the Internet. Imagine a society where established wisdom is replaced by invalidated beliefs, the negatives are undoubtable.
In conclusion, I believe that libraries should participate in the digitization process as soon as possible for the aforementioned convincing reasons. The government and educational institutions might also join hands to accelerate modernization investment and implementation.
