Organized tours to remote areas and community is increasingly popular. Is it a positive or negative development for the local people and the environment?

Many individuals are of the claim that the popularity of traveling to remote areas and communities has increased dramatically. Generally, this trend has both negative and positive consequences for not only the local inhabitants but also the environment which will be elaborated in the following essay.

On the one hand, there are compelling reasons to explain why people think that organizing tours to local areas and communities is a positive development. Firstly, the local residents can enormously benefit from the burgeoning tourism industries as more occupations will be created to accommodate the requirements of tourists. For example, they can be employed to work in restaurants, hotels, or other tourist attraction spots, thus making more money to enhance the overall quality of life. Moreover, in order to attract a massive influx of tourists to come by and explore, the local authorities would be likely to allocate financial resources to the protection and preservation of the environment, thereby reducing environmental-related problems.

On the other hand, the fact that tourism can disturb the lives of local people and the environment should be considered. First and foremost, local environment can be adversely affected due to excessive facilities and infrastructure development. For example, certain companies in Vietnam are allowed to chop down a great area of trees to erect modern amenities, such as hotels, golf courses, and other recreational departments, which consequently exerts dire repercussions on the natural habitats. This approach could eventually disrupt the food chain and push wild animals to the verge of mass extinction due to the absence of shelter and food. Moreover, the development of local tourism could also bring about detrimental problems for the local residents as well. For example, in many highly religious places, inappropriate behaviors due to tourists’ lack of cultural understanding may offend people living in these areas, causing great tension and conflicts.

In conclusion, an increase in the number of tourists who are interested in visiting remote communities is both advantageous and disadvantageous to the residents as well as the local environment
