To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Despite great benefits of computers and mobile phones, their negative impacts on humans are always a hot topic of arguments. Some people show their views that growing up usage of computers and phones for communication badly affects youngsters’ abilities of reading and writing. From my perspective, I partly agree with this opinion since communicating indirectly worsens children’s skills but can make their skills better in some other ways.
On the one hand, it cannot be denied that increasing utilization of smart devices for communication impacts harmfully on children’s reading and writing skills. Foremost, communicating in this way encourages inaccuracy in the way children write. When using these tools, children tend to type words in shorthand form and in other special ways because it can be more convenient, faster and it can make the information they exchange looks more interesting and funnier. This error in using words can gradually become their habits and have a bad influence on their study and work. Additionally, children can become impatient and confused if they have to read and write long and academic articles in real life. As a result, children can lose their interest in academic books which can effectively broaden their knowledge in various fields and they can have lots of difficulties when writing formal texts such as literary texts or emails for their future counterparts.
On the other hand, digital communication can also bring youngsters’ writing and reading skills many benefits. Children can have a chance to get access to a huge amount of information and broaden their knowledge. Through useful tools such as Facebook or Google, children can explore new ideas and different ways of thinking, so their creativity and flexibility can be improved. They completely can bring their knowledge into their writings and make them unique. Moreover, children can advance their skills through online feedback from special features in computers and phones. These smart devices can make children know how good their writings are through checking spelling, grammar or ideas. Hence, they can avoid making too many mistakes and improve their skills perfectly.
Briefly, although digital communication is a great tool to improve children’s reading and writing skills, it negatively influences their ability in many ways. Kids can completely make use of smart devices to improve their skills but they should not be so overdependent on the tools’ features that their learning can be stunted.
