Task 1: The graph below shows the percentage of the Australian workforce in five industries between 1962 and 2012.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The line graph illustrates the proportion of Australians working in five different sectors (services, manufacturing, agriculture, construction, and mining) over a period of 50 years.
Overall, Australian workforce in services accounted for the highest percentage, whereas the number of Australian in the mining sector was the lowest during the 50-year period.
In 1962, services and manufacturing were the most popular industry in Australia with around 52% and 28% respectively. In the next 50 years, there was a gradual increase in the number of workforce in services in Australia and this sector reached a peak of nearly 80 % at the end of the period in 2012. By contrast, the manufacturing industry remained stable until 1972 and dropped significantly to only 10% over 40 years.
Turning to the other three fields, we can see that agriculture and construction contributed around 10% to the Australian workforce in 1962, while mining took up a negligible amount. The construction industry remained unchanged towards the end of the period, however, agriculture experienced a slight decrease in the proportion of the workforce towards the end of the period and reached around 2% in 2012.
